Overview of the
CSU Academic
Grievance Policy

 

   

 
Informal Procedure

1.  Student is encouraged to meet with the faculty.
2.  Chairs and Deans may assist students in meeting with
    the faculty.

Formal Procedure

1.  Student files formal complaint with the Assistant Director
     of Judicial Affairs.
 
2.  Faculty receives written complaint and chooses any, all
     or none of the following:
        ٠  contest whether the complaint is grievable
        ٠  request a formal meeting with the student,
        ٠  volunteer to participate in mediation.
 
3.  In any event, if the complaint has been deemed
     grievable, the faculty member will provide to the Judicial
     Affairs Officer a written response to the specific charges.
 
4.  If the complaint is settled, the case will be closed.
 
5.  If the disagreement continues, the case will go to the Student
     Rights and Responsibilities Hearing Panel where a final
     decision will be made.
 
6.  Decision appeals may only be made for
        ٠
  new and compelling evidence,
        ٠  violation of due process,
        ٠  violation of university or university system policy,
        ٠  error or fact, or
        ٠  a mercy appeal for a penalty out of line with normal
            sanctions.
